What Will I Learn on this Course ?

As a new-comer to the world of Career Coaching, you will be put through the Facilitating Career Development (FCD) curriculum under the National Career Development Association (NCDA). This is a globally recognised programme designed to equip learners with the following 12 core competencies:
  • Helping Skills - Be proficient in the basic career facilitating process while including productive interpersonal relationships.
  • Labor Market Information and Resources - Understand labor market and occupational information and trends. Be able to use current resources.
  • Assessment - Comprehend and use (under supervision) both formal and informal career development assessments with emphasis on relating appropriate ones to the population served.
  • Diverse Populations - Recognize special needs of various groups and adapt services to meet their needs.
  • Ethical and Legal Issues - Follow the NCDA Code of Ethics and the GCDF Code of Ethics and know current legislative regulations.
  • Career Development Models - Understand career development theories, models, and techniques as they apply to lifelong development, gender, age, and ethnic background.
  • Employability Skills - Know job search strategies and placement techniques, especially in working with specific groups.
  • Training Clients and Peers - Prepare and develop materials for training programs and presentations.
  • Program Management/Implementation - Understand career development programs and their implementation, and work as a liaison in collaborative relationships.
  • Promotion and Public Relations - Market and promote career development programs with staff and supervisors. 
  • Technology  - Comprehend and use career development computer applications.
  • Consultation - Accept suggestions for performance improvement from consultants or supervisors.

Although the curriculum is US based, you will also be exposed to issues and trends in the Asian and Singapore context to ensure relevancy to your eventual application as a Certified Career Coach in this region.

Who Should Attend this Course ?

This course is open to all who intend to pursue a career in Career Coaching or Guidance, or intend to use such skills and competencies in a helping role, but have yet to undergo any formal training. These may include 
  • HR professionals
  • Newly appointed Career Coaches in Tertiary Institutions or other Career Centres
  • Faculty or academic advisors, educators
  • Individuals seeking to learn and eventually apply the art of Career Coaching and Advising in their own professional practice or in a personal capacity
  • Those in volunteer roles as a Career Coach seeking upskilling and formal training
  • Staff in schools or other education institutions seeking training and competencies in this area to help their students and colleagues
  • Life or Executive coaches seeking a specialisation in this area of career coaching 

What will I gain after completing this course ?

  • Upon successful completion of the course and the required assessment procedures, you will be issued a certification of completion from the National Career Development Association (NCDA) for completing its FCD curriculum. 
  • With this certificate, you would be eligible to apply for the globally recognised NCDA Certified Career Services Provider (CCSP) credential as well as the Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) credential issued by the Centre for Credentialing & Education (CCE) subject to fulfilling their other respective application conditions. 
  • Upon successful completion, students will

How is the course conducted ?

The programme will examine the following topics from the NCDA FCD curriculum:
  • ​​​Introduction to Career Development
  • Developing a Helping Relationship
  • Training and Leading Groups
  • Career Development Theory and Its Application
  • The Role of Assessment in Career Planning
  • Ethics and the Career Development Facilitator
  • Providing Career Services to Multicultural Populations
  • The Role of Career Information and Technological Resources in Career Planning
  • Job Seeking and Employability Skills
  • Designing and Implementing Career Planning Services​
The FCD curriculum is typically a 120 hour programme comprising self-paced learning and face-to-face classes.  For our programme, we offer two modes of learning:
  1. A blended mix  comprising 3 half days of face-to-face sessions followed by up to 6 interactive web sessions online.   (**IMPT UPDATE** all classes are now to be conducted fully online until further notice)
  2. OR for sessions to be fully conducted online via 13 interactive web sessions. These are ideal for internationally based applicants as well as those wishing to have flexible schedules. Typically learners opting for this mode can take between 13-16 weeks to complete in a self paced process
           
For maximum learning effectiveness and retention, learners will undergo the following blended process
  • Reviewing the NCDA Facilitating Career Development manual purchased separately direct from NCDA (4th edition) 
  • Completion of projects relevant to you and role plays
  • Completion of exercises and contribution to online discussions 
  • Assessments will be conducted in the form of written assignments and a video recording of a live client coaching session

What Makes this Programme Unique ?

  • Individuals are welcome to apply and scheduling can be customised to your convenience. Depending on your choice of mode of learning, you may not need to take any leave of absence from work to attend classes.
  • Group teaching can be organised, but size will be limited to allow for maximum interaction and learning benefit.
  • Internationally based learners can also be part of this as learnings will be conducted via web-based tools and technologies
